Malware threats and the associated issues are the common reasons you need to reformat your Nokia E71. If your device is infected by malware programs, you may face one or multiple associated issues like performance trouble, frequent error messages, multi-tasking, application hang or freeze issues. Maybe your phone is too cluttered or messy, and want to delete off everything. Reformatting is a good choice then. You will need to do a separate memory card reformat as the memory card and SIM are left in the phone reformat.
Things to Do
I have listed two techniques to reformat of your Nokia E71- Hard format and Soft Format. Before starting, you need to create necessary backup for all your important data, as there would be data loss upon a reformat. Sync your Nokia E71 to the PC and start backing whatever you think are important. In order to prevent any possible data corruptions upon a reformat, always ensure you have necessary battery backup. A 30% of the available battery would be fine. Also, at the time of reformat, you will need to provide the correct Security Code a.k.a Lock Code.So keep the right code ready.
This technique makes use of key presses to initiate the reformat. Its very simple to do. Just switch off your device. Press hold the Green call button, Star(*) button, Three(3) button and then turn on your device. Be sure not to leave the key press, or you might need to start over again. You can see your phone reformatting, and the process may take a few minutes. Please wait patiently till its done. After this you can see your phone booting the way it did the first time. Select the time zone, set the date and time and start configuring your phone. It is completely reformatted.
Soft format is comparatively an easy reformat than Hard Format. You don’t need to press hold keys here. Simply close all applications running in the background, come to the standby screen and type in *#7370#. This will initiate the reformat, after you provide the Security Code. Just like Hard Format, you need to wait till your E71 completes reformatting and then start configuring.
