You may need to reformat your Flip Camera, when you are running out of storage space. You will have difficulties in further recording, if your storage goes empty. At times you may find your Flip is not allowing you to record, even though you “think” you have deleted everything off it, if that is the case, its time to reformat your device.
Create backup
Formatting your Flip will take off every stored data, so first thing you can do is create backup for every thing you need. Slide out your Flip’s USB and connect it to your PC. Launch My Computer, by the left hand panel, click the FlipVideo drop-down box. Press the “DCIM” folder icon and click the 100Video folder to reveal your Flip’s videos. Start coping the files to a desired location in your computer. Also browse to other folders in your camera drive and copy files if you want them.
Reformatting
After you finish the copy, you can go to the 100Video folder and select all files there and delete them. Also browse for other folders in your main Flip drive and delete their files too. Or you may simply launch My Computer then right click your Flip camera drive listed under the Removable devices section. Chose the Format option and this will open a new window, here to the bottom, you can find a Start button, click on it to initiate the reformat. Wait till your computer reformats your Flip drive. After you are done safely eject your Flip Camera by clicking the Removable Storage Device icon in the lower-right corner of the main Windows screen. Finally remove your camera from the USB port.
